Although the laughs reduce a bit towards the end, Free Guy turns out to be an immensely watchable comedy film due to the excellent cast and the ingenuity in concept. The makers found the perfect leading man in Ryan Reynolds who portrays the role of a normal NPC in a sprawling video game that becomes an AI program that going rogue.
The GI Joe franchise has been moderately successful due to its over-the-top, Fast & Furious style action sequences but not over any great depth in the screenplay. This time, they seem to have forgotten this, delivering a half-baked product in this film which is the origin story of one of the most beloved characters of this franchise.
Manifest through all its 3 seasons will get you to the point where you would watch this only as a last resort hoping this will improve after such a promising premise. Like many, I had high expectations for this film being a fan of Westworld and there were some very good parts and some not-so-good parts. Its lackluster attempt to be a really big blockbuster will leave you feeling disappointed for just about everyone who tried to work around the story of a man who is hopelessly infatuated by a cabaret lounge singer and tries to find the truth about her.
The film does full justice to the passionate push of this being Daniel Craig’s exit from the series. No Time to Die wraps up the plots from past films while pushing the limits of what the person can convey.
Fast and Furious has become a Hollywood franchise that cannot realize that its stay is over which leads to the main storyline being stretched on for far too long. This makes it stumble bigger than ever with Fast 9.
Free Guy opens higher than expected as The Suicide Squad blows up.
